New Skills for a New Fight

Program Brochure

The award-winning New Skills for a New Fight (NSNF), a no-cost cybersecurity training and certification program for selected military veterans, proudly shares the following accomplishments from its pilot program this year:

  • 100% of veterans received an internship or employment offer for a cybersecurity position; several received more than one offer.
  • NSNF was profiled in the USF Magazine Summer 2016 edition.
  • NSNF veteran students were honored with handcrafted, custom-made quilts from the Quilts of Valor Foundation on October 11.
  • NSNF was named the Veteran Program of the Year by the Tampa Bay Technology Forum at the 13th Annual TBTF Industry Achievement Awards on October 14.
  • NSNF students were recognized at the USF Salute to Service football game at Raymond James Stadium on October 28.
  • NSNF was profiled at the National Initiative for Cybersecurity Education (NICE) conference on Nov. 1-2 in Kansas City, MO.

In their final phase of the NSNF program, our students engaged in cybersecurity employment or internships and prepared to take the following certification exams: ISACA CSX Practitioner, CompTIA Security+ and CompTIA Network+. The 2016 NSNF pilot program officially ended November 11, 2016.

The Future of NSNF

The staff at the Florida Center for Cybersecurity is reviewing and assessing this program prior to the next release of NSNF. Through our Center's partnerships with Florida's state universities, military installations and area employers, we strive to continue to increase the pipeline of cyber talent and create a cybersecurity training model for other institutions to duplicate.
